Following the monumental success of its 50th-anniversary celebration, organisers of the Central Machine Hire Otago Rally have officially announced the provisional dates for 2027.

The 51st running of the southern hemisphere’s premier gravel rally is scheduled to take place from the April 9 to 11, 2027.
These dates remain provisional at this stage, pending final confirmation to ensure there are no scheduling clashes with other major international events taking place in New Zealand’s South Island.
Building on a rich half-century legacy, the 2027 event will once again feature a demanding two-day format, comprising approximately 280 kilometres of special stages.
As is tradition, the rally will be based in the heart of central Dunedin, bringing the electric atmosphere and the incredibly popular ceremonial start to the fans in Dunedin’s Octagon.
While the complete route is yet to be finalised by the organising team, competitors and fans can rest assured that the itinerary will include the region’s world-class, signature tests.
The challenging Waipori Gorge and the iconic, high-speed crests of Kuri Bush are already confirmed to return, promising the fast, flowing, and undeniably ‘different’ rallying experience that the deep south is famous for.
The 51st edition will look to carry forward the incredible momentum generated by the 2026 milestone event, which drew massive crowds to the stages and featured a star-studded international lineup including Kris Meeke, Mads Østberg, Pasi Hagstrom, and Dakar legend Toby Price.
With its unparalleled roads, spectacular scenery, and its highly-regarded organising team, the Otago Rally continues to cement its reputation as a must-do event on the global motorsport calendar.
Further details regarding the finalised route, prospective guest drivers, and competitor entry information will be released in the coming months.
