The competitive stages for the 40th running of the Otago Rally have been named in honour of some of the drivers who have contested the Otago Classic Rally over the past 15 years.

Alister McRae 200Former World Rally Championship star, Alister McRae, will bring his Ford Escort RS1800 to contest this year’s Stadium Cars Otago International Classic Rally.

The Scotsman, who now lives in Perth on Australia’s west coast, won the 1995 British Rally Championship, before moving into the WRC where he contested 78 events for factory teams such as Subaru, Hyundai and Mitsubishi.

 

The 2014 Stadium Cars/ SSangyong International Classic Rally of Otago will hit TV screens in both New Zealand and Australia during the month of August.


The 2015 Rally of Otago has received a financial boost with the Dunedin City Council increasing their funding of the rally for next year.

Otago RallyThe 2010 Rally of Otago is on this weekend, and thousands of spectators are expected to converge on the forests to watch the action, and to capture it on camera.

Richard MasonThe top speed in this month’s Rally of Otago will have a new co-driver calling the pacenotes over the two days of action on April 10 and 11.

Richard Mason, the winner of the event in 2007 and 2008, usually has his wife, Sara Mason, sitting beside him in their Subaru Impreza WRX STI.



Rotorua’s Sloan Cox is set to take up the challenge of the Otago Rally this weekend.
 
For Cox and co-driving sister Tarryn, it is their first pace-noted rally together after a season apart. The pair have been working with multiple New Zealand rally champion Geof Argyle and practising pace note writing on local roads, gaining extra confidence before the opening round of the New Zealand Rally Championship (NZRC).

“I just want to keep on winning,” says the 26 year old, who took victory at the season opening Tauranga Clubmans Rally and last seasons ending Rally of the North.
Dean SumnerEighty-five entries have been received for the 2010 Rally of Otago, which includes the first round of the New Zealand Rally Championship, and the popular Dunlop International Classic Rally.

To be held in and around Dunedin on April 10 and 11, the Rally of Otago boasts some of the biggest names in New Zealand rallying, as well as drivers from Italy and Australia.
