2010 Otago Rally – prime spectator locations

Otago RallyThe 2010 Rally of Otago begins outside the Southern Cross Hotel early on Saturday morning, ahead of 16 special stages over two days.

Here's a list of each stage, and the best viewing locations for spectators. Enjoy the action!

The National Championship Rally starts first and the first car leaves the SOUTHERN CROSS HOTEL, High St Dunedin at 6.45am.  The Classic Rally will follow, then the Allcomers.  Each car will arrive 20 minutes early and be displayed at the start.

Special Stage 1 – Dunedin Automotive Ridge Rd.  22.1km, 8.35am
Best viewing midstage from intersection of McLeod & Coal Pit Rds.

Special Stage 2 – Mitre 10 Mega Tokarahi.  27.3km, 9.10am
Best viewing midstage from intersection of Cants & Tapui-Tokarahi Rds, where the stage crosses the sealed arterial road.

Pitstop Service B at Livingston.
First car arrives at 9.35am and stays 20 minutes.

Special Stage 3 – Alistair Corbett Dansey’s Pass. 29.1km, 10.12am
Only viewing from start and finish.

Special Stage 4 – Team Talk Shag Valley Back Rd 1.  7.6km, 11.32am
Best viewing at intersection and big ford 400m from Start.  Easy access from eastern end of Loop Rd.  Prime viewing spot, with commentary.

Pitstop Service C at Palmerston.
First car arrives at 12.02pm and stays 30 minutes.

Special Stage 5 – Watertight Plumbing and Heating Taieri Peak.  29.2km, 12.47pm.
Best viewing at intersection of Stoneburn & Golden Bar Rds.

Special Stage 6 – Custom Signs Shag Valley Back Rd 1.  7.6km, 1.37pm
Best viewing at intersection and big ford 400m from Start.  Easy access from eastern end of Loop Rd.  Prime viewing spot, with commentary.

Pitstop Service D at Palmerston.
First car arrives at 2.07pm and stays 20 minutes.

Special Stage 7 – Dunedin City Ford Silverpeaks.  15.6km, 2.57pm.
Only viewing from start and finish.

Pitstop Service E at Fryatt St, Dunedin.
First car arrives at 3.37pm and stays 10 minutes.

Special Stage 8 – Radio Live Tarmac Superstage.  2.1km, 3.57pm
$5 entry fee, kids under 12 free.

RADIO LIVE DOWNTOWN SUPERSTAGE 8
2.15km, Starts 4pm
Wharf area, beside the Anzac Ave overbridge.  Best viewing with commentary from the overbridge or any intersection.  Four fast and spectacular laps of the block.  $5.00 entry fee.  Kids under 12 free.

The first car leaves the SOUTHERN CROSS HOTEL at 7.00am

Special Stage 9 – Turners Auctions Whare Flat.  12.3km, starts 7.25am
Best viewing midstage, on the road to the Pineapple Track carpark, or at finish.

Special Stage 10 – O’Neill Devereux Kuri Bush.  15.1km, 8.10am
Best viewing midstage at Christies Gully Rd intersection.

Special Stage 11 – Oakley Gray Architects Waipori Gorge.  13.0km, 9.05am.
Best viewing from start, but a reasonably long walk. 2.5km to bridge! Be in place 30 minutes before first car.

Pitstop Service F at Middlemarch Showgrounds, on main road within township
First car arrives at 10.15am and stays 20 minutes.

Special Stage 12 – NJL Builders Bald Hill 1.  10.6km, starts 11.00am.
Best viewing if drive up Moonlight Rd from Middlemarch end to intersection with Bald Hill Rd. Prime viewing spot, with commentary.

Special Stage 13 – The Terrace Sports Bar Longdale.  12.6km, 11.30am.
Best viewing from start or finish if in place 30 minutes before first car.

Special Stage 14 – Blair McNab Plumbing Hartfield.  18.8km, 11.50am
Best viewing from start.

Pitstop Service G at Middlemarch
First car arrives at 12.10pm and stays 30 minutes.

Special Stage 15 – Kenny’s Tyres Bald Hill 2.  10.6km, starts 1.05pm.
Best viewing if drive up Moonlight Rd from Middlemarch end to intersection with Bald Hill Rd. Prime viewing spot, with commentary.

Special Stage 16 – PB Technology Nenthorn.  29.0km, 1.30pm
Best viewing from finish if in place 30 minutes before first car.  A 0.5 – 2km walk into the Stage will give good fast corners.

Fulton Hogan Finish Ceremony.  Octagon, 2.30pm
City Centre finish ramp and champagne ceremony.
