News from some of the Australian competitors from Day 1 of the Dunlop International Classic Rally of Otago.
Darryn Snooks/Matt de Vaus (pictured) in a Datsun Stanza (with FJ motor) dropped a spark plug lead on SS1, then had a spin and jammed throttle cable on SS7.
Mike Conway/Jenny Cole in an Escort Mk2 managed fourth and seventh
fastest times in Classics on early stages, but went off and got stuck on
SS3 without damage (until a following car backed it off into them).
Craig and Silvia Jarvie had a huge roll on SS2 – reports suggest their
Holden Commodore is so badly damaged they won't be bringing it back to
Australia.
Keith and Mary-Anne Callinan retired their BDA Escort with engine
failure.
John 'Fats' Liddle from WA was 21st Classic in the Mk 1 Escort he leases
every year for the event.
