Strong Aussie interest in 2008 Otago Rally

Australian competitors are already showing a strong interest in contesting the 2008 Otago Rally, despite the event still being over eight months away.

The event, which in 2008 will run on May 10 and 11, is already well into the planning phase with a number of changes set to enhance the event even further.

“There’s a strong possibility that we’ll use some public road stages
that haven’t been used for some time,” Clerk of Course, Norman Oakley,
said.

“Along with the new stages, rally favourites such as
Whare Flat, Kuri Bush, Waipori Gorge and the tarmac super stage around
the streets of Dunedin will continue to be the used.”

Event
organisers, the Otago Sports Car Club, have decided not to return to
the Forbury Park complex in 2008. Instead, a large, undercover
motorshow is likely to be organised, which is certain to gain
considerable interest from the local media and the large number of
spectators who flock to the event each year.

The Rally of Otago
will be the second round of the New Zealand Rally Championship in 2008,
as well as including the increasingly popular Otago Classic Rally, and
the Rally Xtreme Challenge.
