Get social with #otagorally2015

Auriol Day 1 200Organisers of the Otago Rally are encouraging competitors, spectators and rally fans to join the social media revolution by using an official hashtag for this year’s event.

With Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat now a part of everyday life for many of the population, the Otago Rally is embracing the technology.

#otagorally2015 will be the official hashtag for the rally, with organisers set to run a competition for the best contribution during the rally, to be held from May 8 to 10.

Those keen to win a prize in the competition will get extra credits for also using #dunedin in their posts.

“Social media is everywhere, from your desktop computer to your tablet or mobile phone, so we’re looking forward to embracing it this year,” Otago Rally promotions manager, Roger Oakley, said.

“We know that social media is one of the key places that people get their news, and during the Otago Rally that news will include stage times, rally updates, photos, and even videos from out on the stages.

“Further details of the competition and the prize on offer will be announced in the coming weeks.”

As the second round of the Brian Green Property Group New Zealand Rally Championship, and including the popular Drivesouth Rallyfest and the Stadium Cars/Ssangyong International Classic Otago Rally, the event is again expected to attract a high quality field of cars and drivers.

After a Friday night publicity start in Dunedin’s Octagon, the rally gets underway on the Saturday, May 9 with stages to the north of the South Island city, and soutn of the city on Sunday.
