Gore duo Andrew Graves and Kevin Laird captured the overall drivers and co-drivers titles respectively when the Laird Motorsport Southern Rally Series was decided at the Catlins Coast Rally recently.
 
The series is contested at the three major rallies in the southern region each year - the Rally Of Otago, Rally Of Southland and Catlins Coast Rally -by drivers and co-drivers who reside in the area.
 

It's less than a week until the Dunlop International Otago Classic Rally fires into action in Dunedin, and South Island speedster, Deane Buist, will be out to take back-to-back victories in the two-day event.

But who will be Buist's biggest threat for victory, and will a chance of car dampen the champion's chances?

We look at some of the drivers to watch.

Planning is well under way for the 2009 Rally of Otago, which will be held in and around the New Zealand South Island city of Dunedin on May 16 and 17.

The event is round two of the New Zealand Rally Championship, and will include the popular International Classic Rally of Otago, which is again expected to attract some of world rallying’s superstars.

The 2008 Otago Rally will get under way spectacularly on Friday, May 9, 2008 with a motorshow and the official rally start at Edgar Stadium, in Dunedin.

2007 Rally of Otago winners, Richard and Sara Mason, will start as odds-on favourites to win this year’s event, to be run in and around Dunedin on May 10 and 11.
